Love has to be expressed just like a bell has to be rung. Each of us has a love tank that needs to be topped up daily.

Oftentimes, marriage runs on an empty tank as one spouse fails to express love to the other.

Start off by leaving love notes for your spouse in your home, anywhere to surprise him/ her. It will rekindle the spark in your marriage.

Cheerful Heart vs Crushed Spirit

Recently , I went through quite alot of emotional big swing in life - mainly valleys. Interestingly, people around me have 2 kinds of responses that mentioned in Proverbs 17:22

A cheerful heart is good medicine

but a crushed spirit dries up the bones

Cheerful heart

It brings comfort to my soul. It helps me to think I am not in the worst situation, there is a purpose for everything. It lifted me up, it encourages me. It brings healing and peace. It is as good as an effective medicine to an unwell soul.

Crushed spirit

It breaks hope. It pass a judgement and bringing a condemption. Bones are dry enough, why do some people aim to make it more dry?

I am glad I have more cheerful hearts around me. Otherwise, I will be as dry as a bone.

Be wise of who you listen to and let's learnt to be good medicine to others too.

4 Lui October's babies

A few of the Lui's just so happened to be borne in Oct. This year, a few of them "so happened" to fall sick in Oct. Finally, managed to gather all of us in good health together on the 2nd last day of October.

It's a joy to be loved

A family went to buy some vouchers with the intention to celebrate CK's birthday. Who knows our dear friend fell ill badly throughout his birthday month. It was just a pleasant surprise to receive their call on Saturday to ask us to join them dessert at The Tasting Room. We are so blessed with so much yummy food!

Thank you, Khaw family. We are so blessed and very well-fed by you!

My hubby is back to "Normal"

CK fell very ill end of last month. It started with a constant high fever to ulcers (lots and lots of them) in his throat till he admitted into a hospital. Being married for 14 years, this was my first encounter to admit him into a hospital. This virus attack persisted almost two weeks. Just in the nick of time to recover from this nasty ulcers, he started to cough. The cough wasn't a normal flu coughing. It made him breathless, unable to lie down flat to sleep and he need to be in a 45 degree position for a few nights. At times, he would wake up from his sleep and broke into consistent coughing in the middle of night, liked a TB patient. Pretty scary! The cough lasted almost a week and again while it was getting off, his right foot started to swell! It got so bad till he nearly couldn't drive his car back home. Neither could he walk properly. Our family doctor started to get pretty concern and asked him to go for a full checkup as he had lost 6 kg within 3 weeks.

Thank God for His grace. Health report showed that all are well and probably the swell is due to gout. He need to be cautious of what he eat. There is no sight of ulcers nor cough. The swell is disappearing too.

I am grateful that my hubby is back to "normal" as he can:
- make me MAD as cheekily touch my chin and said I got double chin;
(I KNOW YOU ARE ONLY 2 KG HEAVIER THAN ME)

- raise voice at me when we disagree;
(FOR PAST FEW WEEKS, OUR HOME WAS PRETTY QUIET)

- be sweet as he bought flowers for his wife. (THUMB UP!!!)

Revival of my blog

Today is my dad's 15th death anniversary. I still miss him. Sometimes, I wonder what is he doing in heaven?

If you ask me about him, I only have good things to say about him and it will be a very long list. How I wish he can hear all his virtue he has.

Teacher's Day Celebration

I never regard myself as a teacher though I teach in Sunday School. However, this year was a pretty significant as received quite a few gifts from parents. Other than the pen, mostly are hand-made and I personally loved hand-made gifts. So lovely!

Thanks to Sis Helen, Angie, Elise and Eunice. Not forgetting the good food prepared by Boon Thiam & Eunice, our forever faithful ministry leaders.

Pleasant Surprise by Nathan

Everyone loves pleasant surprise, me too. When it comes from your offspring, the feeling is beyond words that can describe.
There was a season that our children were crazy with beyblade. This is how it looks.

I ever mentioned to Nathan that it was improvised from my childhood's toy - spinning top. We used a string to wrap it round a few times and throw to spin it. It has a similar concept to his beyblade. It was a causal remark which any mom would share with her children how their childhood was. This conversation was made more than a year ago.

Yesterday, Nathan went for an excursion at Kampong Glum. He saw the top I mentioned. He remembered it. Out of his balance cash of $4, he took out $2.50 to get one for me! I was very touch, really very touch. It is not the gift but the act of him remembering what I shared causally touches my heart. He told me he wants me to remember my childhood. How sweet is he!

Nathan, if you ever read or re-read this entry years down the road, mummy wants you to know, this top is very precious and meaningful to me. I will definitely keep it forever.

Hope and Wish

Welcome "Hope" and "Wish" to our little cosy home. They are our new hamsters named by Nathan. He HOPE to have hamsters for very long and WISH that one day we will agree to let him to keep them again.

Children longed and craved for things. Today they like it, tomorrow they don't. Somehow, the desire for hamsters stay with Nathan for very long. We have so many pairs till we lost count of them. Initially, we agreed to buy if he score X number of Band 2 and X number of Band 3. It was a condition agreement.

In the midst of the preparation for the exams, he gauged that he would not able to meet our expectation. He was saddened. I could see his efforts invested. Somehow, some things couldn't make it happened within a short period.

Seeing his strong desire for it, CK finally agreed to buy the hamsters simply to show him we love him. We love him, be it he scores well or bad. On the other hand, I would love to let him know we appreciate his effort and hard work for the exams. Hence, here comes the hamsters before exam results released.

In many instances, results do not match the efforts. There is NO correct formula of the number of hours input = numbers of points scored. I clearly remembered I put in lots of hard work on my "A" levels but still failed my GP. It wasn't easy to comprehend that when I was 19. So what can a 11 years old boy understand? The school system is cruel enough to label him, he does not need another one from his parents.

I hope this little award will be his booster, to continue to run a good race, giving his best in everything he does.

As parents, we need to learn to appreciate/ encourage/ reward the process, not just the outcome. I am glad we made this decision.

Friend of 3 decades gave birth to her 4th child! I always teased her that she helped me to hit the replacement quota since I have one and she has 4 kids.

She looked so happy in my arms!

6 March

EW turned 30 this year! His enthusiastic wife prepared a surprise party for him. My family was among the few honoured ones that was invited. How blessed are you, EW. Coincidentially, I also did a secret bd party for CK when he turned 30. :) So CK is blessed too! haha...

8 March

Marked my 14th wedding anniversary. This year, hubby planned the program. He treated me to my long desired place - Universal Studio. It was really good to explore a new place together just 2 of us (YES! Without Nathan). It brought memories of our honeymoon when we were in Gold Coast 14 years ago.

We tried this!

I can conclude, I am no longer young!!!!!!! CK commented he had never heard me screamed so loud before. I took 15 mins to recover as I could feel the "floating" feeling even after the ride.

The world alarming earthquake in Japan broke. It was closer to my heart as Hock and Sharene were there. I remembered I woke from my sleep in one of those nights as I had dreamt them running for their lives. I never monitored news so closely like this. Each bad news increased my worries.

Dear Kaelynn, so sorry that we haven't met yet! Sigh, don't know why Gor Gor Nathan, Aunty Yvonne & Uncle CK kept taking turns to fall ill. You are precious to us and we couldn't risk to spread any germs to you. Be good girl and pray for us to be healthy so that we can meet earlier!!

I was on medical leave for 3 full days! Not sure did all the above excitement caused it but definitely it wasn't a pleasant time popping pills.

Had a tiff with CK last night. Later, he came to apologize. I was still sulking over the issues and trying to justify myself.

Behold a voice came from the other room..

"Mummy, forgive daddy lah."

I was shocked but cheekily I asked "Why should I forgive him?"

Nathan: "You should know, he is liked that."

I ignored him and continued my justification.

Nathan: mummy, forgive daddy la. You need to forgive and forget. Christian needs to forgive and forget.

I paused, both of us started giggling.

Afraid he was not being heard he dashed to our room and asked,

Hey! Are you a Christian? Christian needs to forgive and forget!!!

We bursted out into laughter.

My Brother - Part 4 回家

Last Wednesday, brother started his soft diet. All went well. No negative reaction, no allergy. Each day was a special day as only good news were reported. From Friday onwards, staff from Bishan Home came to observe and under study.

Finally after 4 full months, he was discharged from TTSH yesterday. My 2nd sister who went to fetch him told me that he kept laughing once the nurses changed him to home clothes. He must be very happy!!

He was warmly welcomed by the matron and also the CEO. Even some of the residents were delighted to see him back.

This morning, eldest sister and I went to visit him at the Home. He looked good. The staff informed us that he slept well last night. During lunch time, he responded with a BIG smile when he saw his food coming. It was such a beautiful sight. My heart is full of thanksgivings and I am so grateful to God for this healing.

Bro - you are a miracle from God.

My Brother - Part 3

Just a few days before I left for Cairns holiday (mid Nov), doctor from TTSH called to give me a conclusion that my brother may have to be on tube feeding for the rest of his life. His swallowing muscles was not function well. The food was going into the respiratory system instead of digestive system. On long run, if he was not going with a tube feeding, he would suffer pneumonia which would lead to death. My mind went blank. I remembered I was alone in Vivocity sourcing a gift for a colleague. I stood for quite a while staring at the crowd with heavy and burdened heart. Being intellectually disabled is indeed pitiful and now he has to be bed-ridden with a tube inserted through his nose? This is absolutely a SAD story! Is that the end of the story?

I vividly recalled myself insisting the doctor to continue to fix regular review by speech therapy as MIRACLE can happen.

I still remembered that very Friday, I was supposed to teach the 1st lesson of Great Faith. I told CG I came with a burden heart. It wasn't an easy lesson for me to deliver. We ended in an intercession praying for unanswered prayers in our lives - surely my brother's healing was the cry of my heart.

After returning from vacation, things started to move on as if my brother will not get better. He was transferred to a Buffer Stepdown Unit (BSU) to wait for a nursing home. We were told the waiting period could be as long as half a year. Guess what? Less than a month, there was a nursing home willing to take him. It was too soon for any delight. However, due to some miscommunication, we did not proceed with the admission to the nursing home.

Somehow, situation made a 360 degree changed. On the last day of 2010, speech therapy informed me that my brother showed significant improvement of his swallowing. However, to be assured that the food is going into the right pipe, they would need to do an X-ray while feeding him. As he still had a wire in his jaws due to the operation for his fractured chin bone, I requested for the X-ray to be done after 18 Jan as that was the day he was scheduled to remove that wire. It would be a more conclusive judgement of his swallowing muscles. The speech therapy agreed to this.

Low and behold, the trauma did not end. His blood pressure (BP) went below acceptable range after the wire being removed. He was sent to A&E on the same day. Somehow, when he reached A&E his BP went back to normal. Due to some ridiculous policy, the BSU had discharged my brother after sending him to A&E. He was left with no place to go and had to "hangout" in A&E for a good 7 hours! He ended with admission to TTSH for no good reason.

I felt so frustrated and helpless with the whole episode of what my brother had gone through. Just because he couldn't speak and express himself? I literally cried to God the next morning for His direction and somehow I had an impression to let him continue to stay in TTSH.

Yes, with that assurance I told the social worker I would have my brother continue to stay at TTSH and have the X-ray soonest to bring a conclusion of his health. She cautioned me that hospital bill would be more expensive and I replied, my brother will be discharged soon. The same message I told my sisters, Yes - he will be discharged soon.

Today is the day - he went for his X-ray. Speech therapy called me around 4pm. Good news! Miracle happened. My brother will be off from tube feeding from tomorrow onwards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I write all these details, I realised God's hands is indeed upon the whole scenario.
If wasn't HIM, we could just accept it is a norm for a down sydrome person.
If wasn't HIM, we could have admitted my brother into a nursing home.
If wasn't HIM, my brother would not be back in TTSH with an expedite speed of review by speech therapy.

I truly give thanks for every step that He leads and guides us.

Counting Answered Prayers

Last night, as a Care Group we gathered in the 1st CG meeting in new year starting with counting of prayers we presented to God that were answered last year:

1. Joanna's brother got a new job.
2. My sister came back to Christ.
3. Sis Koh's sister started reading bible.
4. Sharon got a job in ITE.
5. Karen's dad's 2nd biopsy result was cleared, no cancer cells found.
6. Nicholas' lump supernaturally disappeared.
7. Speedy recovery for Joanna's injury.
8. Denise's brother in law found a job.
9. Denise's pregnancy.
10.Serene's mom said sinner's prayers.
11.Serene's brother getting married this year.
12. Kenny got a new job.

How faithful is our Lord that provided healing, restoration of souls and also financial blessings.

With this, we usher a new year with a greater dependency on Him. Indeed, He is never deaf to our prayers. Just need us to ask in faith.

My hobby - Scrapbooking

Scrapbooking is a hobby I never regretted picking it up. It is not just fun, it can act as memorable gifts for people I love and cherish. Unknowingly, I have made quite a number of it last year.

ES & Denise have the same bd month. Other than T-shirts, I thought adding a frame with their photo that they took in EW & Jackie's wedding. How often can we see ES in suit?

Loved this art piece. It was for our dear Serene who took up CG leader from 3 months to a year's contract. It was filled with encouraging words from all CG members and that made the great difference

I did this after scrapbooking with Jocelyn & Jackie in June. They "motivated" me to dig our nice photo of our travel - HKG 2009.

I did this shortly after the above piece. Tioman trip was a cheap and good holiday. Life is great with a son, without Nathan, guess it would be that much fun. :)

Running out of ideas to buy for Christina on her bd, thus making a scrap page - Cheerful Christina!

In hope to cheer up a lonely soul (Fiona) in HK, we (四大美女）decided to send her a card on her bd. She was so thrilled that we had an overseas conference call with her!

This was a piece that took me the longest time. Reasoning being, I was over confident by asked CG to write on papers before designing it. It ended up as a 6 pages of 12" X 12" bd card!

haha... the biggest card I ever made for a lady who has a BIG heart.

In a few occassions, Jie Jie mentioned she loved white Christmas. Thus, made this scrap page as her bd present.

My 1st layout from a scrapbooking class!

I loved the words! Thank God it just inspired me the right words for this Khaw family.

My ever 1st layout on baby photos! Isn't she sweet? Of course! She is a mix blood - a gift for my dearest boss on his bd.

There was a reason being this layout. One fine day, the photo frame holding our wedding photo gave way. It dropped from a cabinet and broke into pieces. Since then, this photo laid on the cabinet for many many months till a layer of dust on it!

I just couldn't find a suitable frame for it. Till Jennis was mentioning to me that she would like to scrap her wedding photo and my idea lightbulb was lighted up!!!

And I loved this very much.

I remembered during my childhood, I envied those who had Christmas party to attend whereas I had none. But now, it is not just one nor two but many many more.

I couldn't stop giving thanks to all my family and friends for making a special Christmas this year. Indeed, a noisy Christmas is better than a silent night.

From Cairns - Part 5

When talking about Cairns - you can't miss the beautiful ocean - Great Barrier Reef. We went twice!

1st trip with Ocean Free to Green Island. See our happy faces!

It was our 1st time going out by a sail boat.

Who's feet was that?

It was our cool captain... He can navigate by his feet!

This trip wasn't that exciting as 2 of us had sea sick and it was a rainy day. Thus the water wasn't that clear. Nevertheless, we managed to see :

SHARK!

Nevertheless, we still enjoyed the breeze very much. Especially, the return journey whereby the captain switched off the motor and let the wind led the way! It was pretty nice with soft music, natural wind and cheese to bite with little wine.

We went off second reef trip with Down Under Cruise Dive. This was an awesome trip. All of enjoyed alot. It brought us to outer reef and opened us to a wonders of the world. The corals were colourful, many species of fishes till we were too overwhelmed with its sight. Too bad, our underwater camera didn't perform what we expected. Could only showcased some of it.

On the returned journey, we were even entertained by the cruise' Marine Biologist who has a good voice!

We truly thank God for His provision. It has been our talk for many years about Cairns. It was a blessed trip, we have no unnecessary surprise, no one fell ill, nothing lost and most importantly strong bonding of family time together.

Also, thank God for directing us to Koala Court where we got to know Andy & Ruth who had helped us alot in making our various trips easy and memorable. They were generous with their information and knowledge.

From Cairns - Part 4

Day 4

We rented a car again as we headed to Cairns Wildlife Safari Reserve. Let me put in this way, we never noted about this place when we did our research from Singapore. Came to know only when we happened to visit a tour agency during one of the shopping trips. It has little advertisement, low profile, even the brochure and website looks non professional. However, the reviews about it was like 100% good. I have to say it was awesome! First time in my life that I ever got so closed and near to wild animals.

Hippos! We were a few steps away from them. Used to have an impression that they stink. But in this wildlife, they provide a river (not muddy) for them to live in. They were so clean and no smell at all.

This lion was yawning when I took this pic. Actually, when I first met it, he roared at me! I was shocked and overwhelmed! Yes, dog ever barked at me but never a lion! A lion's roar was sounded liked thunder, 很雄威. I literally "freezed" for a few seconds then realised it roared at me!

This reserve has very few visitors. Could be due to rain, the whole safari has only our family for 1st 1.5 hrs. At 1030 feeding time for bears, just another family of 3 joined us. Since the crowd was small, we had the privilege to go into its resting cage.

1100 was the feeding time for lions. There wer in fact more than 20s in this reserve. However, just for show only 3 were involved. The keepers threw 3 pieces of meat with bones on different spot. He did ask us to get our video ready but before I could press the button, the lions CHARGED out in split of seconds! Maybe 2 seconds... so fast! Hey, can they go back again? I thought. But that awesome moment was still in our memory, CK and Nathan were also thrilled at that sight. Here is the video of one of them crunching... not nuts but bones.....

There were so much to share, but don't think can finish all the details. However, highly recommending this Reserve to anyone who goes to Cairns. The entrance fee is even cheaper than the Zoo we visited on Day 2. Nevertheless, it is built in a rainforest, lots of hills up and down, thus not so suitable for people who can't walk well. But I saw them kept a few spare wheelchairs at the reception. It has a wildlife feel thus it is good to bring along insect repellent. Also, this place does not have kangaroo or koala if you MUST see one.

Day 6 - Rest and relax day

Spent time shopping, cooking and playing in the Lagoon (liked our public swimming pool but no cost at all) and also the pool in the apartment we stayed.

Aren't they cute? Some backbackers rent these as their accommodation.

Our favourite mega store. Things are cheap there, we went there 3 times!

Bet you can't figure out what were those black spot in the sky? They were BATS. Lots of them, so much so that a good 15mins they haven't finished migrating. It is interesting to have such sight in the city of Cairns.

From Cairns - Part 3

Day 3

We went for the infamous Kuranda - a village in the rainforest. Actually, the village itself isn't that interesting but it was the way up by train and down by skyrail that were the highlights of the day!

The whole rail journey took about 1 hour 45 mins. This journey didn't come easy. Click here if you would want to the history of the creation of this railway.

Here are some snaps of various views from the train:

The most spectacular sight is the Barron Fall. The train passed by it and the temperature has a sudden dropped with slight coldness.

There is a church in Kuranda, not an exhibit. A real one and it looks so holy. heehee... so must act holy abit by kneeling down and pray... HEHEHE...

The most exciting and thrilling for me & Nathan was this skyrail which took about an hour.

From Cairns - part 2

Just finished downloading photos, but incomplete as iphone can't move those I took with it and still have a underwater camera at the shop. Minus these 2 devices, I had 552 pics! WOW!

There were so much to share that I am lost. Okay, let's start with a systematically way:

Day 2
We rented a car. Supposingly to be a 2 door but favour of God was with us! We got a Camry! This marked CK's first overseas driving experience. This boy was very delighted with this toy smiling from ear to ear and commented a few times that was a good car!

We drove all the way up to Port Douglas which was about an hour drive. I would say it was an easy journey it drove passed a rainforest which has lots of S course! Well done! A video to show our journey up...

In the afternoon, we drove to Cairns Tropical Zoo. It was pretty exciting for Nathan as it was his first time seeing a Koala and getting very closed to groups of kangaroos. Yosh!! The crocodile show was quite impressive.

Day 1 in Cairns

Firstly, we are thankful that we have been upgraded. Our booking was for one bedroom apartment with add on 1 sofa bed. However, we have been given a 2 bed rooms apartment! :)

...which comes with washing machine, dryer and mop! Can't be spare from housework?

It comes with a fully equipped kitchen, more equipped than my own in Singapore!

There are also iron board, hair dryer, VCD player and also a sheltered BBQ area. Truly, thank God for such a comfortable place. REALLY FEEL AT HOME.
